Small to medium-sized dioecious tree, to 18 m tall; branches shout, stiff, suberect; yellow-green, strongly 4-angled (6-lined), partly puberulous.
Petioles (5)10-20(30) mm long, stout, angular, transversely wrinkled, with semilunar basal fold (pseudo-ligule), puberulous; lamina (8-)9-12.5 cm long, 5-6.5(-10) cm broad, oblong to elliptic or subcircular, apex rounded to retuse, margin recurved, base broadly cuneate to rounded, firmly coriaceous, shining, glabrous, lateral nerves obscure to nearly obsolete.
Inflorescence from lower axils of current growth, 4-6-flowered, fascicled; flowers 5-merous, subsessile or pedicels to ca. 10 mm long, glabrous, convex, in bud globose. Male flowers with outer 2 sepals subcircular, rounded, 2-4 mm long and broad, inner 3 subreniform, 3-4 mm long, 4-5 mm broad, rounded, all puberulous or glabrescent outside, margin ciliate; petals pale green, 8-10 mm long, 6-8 mm broad, elliptic to elliptic-subcircular, with recurved, finely ciliate margin; stamen fascicles free, erect, slender, each with 6-10 stamens, anthers subglobose, dehiscing longitudinally, filaments free for ca. 1 mm; sterile fascicles forming spongy 5-lobed central mass; rudimentary ovary absent. Female flowers with similar perianth; staminodial fascicles with 3 staminodes; sterile fascicles free, obovate, plano-convex, alternating with the staminodial fascicles; ovary subglobose, 5-lobed; stigmatic mass 5-lobed, on short style.
Berry 3-4.5 cm in diam., depressed-globose, smooth.
